Outdoor Adventure Intern (Part-time Seasonal)

Midcoast Conservancy’s mission is to support healthy lands, waters, and communities in Midcoast Maine through conservation, outdoor adventure and learning.

The Outdoor Adventure Intern will support adventure based programming at one or more Community Outdoor Adventure Hubs. The Intern will assist with curriculum/lesson design, instruction, and gear maintenance/repair associated with adventure based programming. Supporting adventure based events, such as our Maine Summer Adventure Race, will also be an aspect of this position. The successful candidate will be supervised and work closely with the Director of Community Programs, community leaders and volunteers to ensure the success of the program. The position is part time $15.00/hr (20 Hours/week) and requires periodic work on weekends and evenings. The internship begins September 11, 2017, and ends November 17, 2017.


Curriculum Design & Instruction

  • With help from staff, key volunteers, and partners will:
  • Develop curriculum for various disciplines (i.e orienteering, mountain biking, kayaking etc)
  • Instruct developmentally appropriate skill progressions
  • Design and implement lessons related to the specific discipline

Equipment Maintenance & Repair:

  • Assist the Director of Community Programs in inventory process
  • Organize and prepare equipment prior to each program
  • Recover, clean and store equipment after each program
  • Repair broken or damaged items as needed

Trail Building

  • Work in partnership with community volunteers to develop trails at various hub locations
  • Aid with the organization of tools and gear associated with trail building
  • Assist Land Steward, Maine Conservation Corps Intern to ensure trails are marked andmapped appropriately at hub sites.

Event Support

  • Course marking
  • Race timing
  • Preparation & Break down


  • Demonstrated experience in adventure based programs
  • Exceptional interpersonal, written, oral and presentation skills
  • Experience working with youth (5-17)
  • Ability to operate and maintain a variety of hand tools-training provided as needed
  • Willingness to conduct field work in all weather conditions
  • Ability to navigate using map/compass
  • Competence using MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Flexible work schedule (some evenings and weekends required)
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Reliable transportation and valid driver’s license

Position will be based out of the Midcoast Conservancy office in Wiscasset with a significant portion of time spent at our Nature Center in Jefferson and at other community centers.
