The Organization

The Royal River Conservation Trust is a 501(c)(3) non-profit land trust dedicated to the preservation of the natural, recreational, historical, and agricultural resources of Maine’s Royal River watershed for present and future generations.

Job Description - Development Director

The Royal River Conservation Trust is seeking an organized and detail-oriented individual to manage the fundraising and community engagement efforts of the organization. This position under the supervision of the Executive Director will implement the goals, strategies, and benchmarks of RRCT’s development and fundraising efforts including securing individual, corporate, and foundation support.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Execute all development programs including identifying, engaging and soliciting major donors;
  • Maintain donor database including processing donations, data entry, thank you letters;
  • Coordinate the fall and spring mailing appeal, and other mailings as needed;
  • Research and write grant proposals, manage grant calendar and develop relationships with program officers;
  • Support the development committee as needed by preparing gift reports and attending meetings;
  • Assist with the coordination of public and private events;
  • Solicit sponsorships for RRCT events;
  • Champion organizational philanthropy.


  • Have a passion for the mission of RRCT;
  • Have excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Pay close attention to confidentiality;
  • Have strong partnership building skills;
  • Have the ability to self-initiate but also to take direction;
  • Have relevant experience or willingness to learn in the following areas:
    • Database management;
    • Development, fundraising;
    • Social media platforms;
    • Conservation and/or non-profit work;
    • Non-profit or grant-writing experience.
