Development Associate

For 33 years, the Brunswick-Topsham Land Trust has conserved the remarkable diversity and natural heritage of the greater Brunswick-Topsham region, and has grown to be a leader in local community and economic development.

The Brunswick-Topsham Land Trust is seeking an organized and detail-oriented Development Associate to support the organization’s fundraising, membership, outreach, and administrative needs. The Development Associate will be an integral member of the Land Trust team and will report to the Executive Director.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Membership and Development:

  • Maintain donor database (Little Green Light) including processing donations, thank you letters, and reports;
  • Administer membership renewal, year-end, and other direct mailings and appeals;
  • Coordinate grant calendar and assignments, manage and draft grant applications;
  • Maintain Development records and files in accordance with accreditation requirements;
  • Prepare and send reminders in advance to donors with gift pledges coming due;
  • Assist with coordination and planning of development-centered events and programs;
  • Support the Development Committee by preparing gift statistics and database reports, meeting agendas and reminders, attending meetings and taking minutes, and performing other tasks as requested.

Organizational and Operations Support:

  • Understand the mission and programs of BTLT and present them persuasively to donors and the community;
  • Assist with the writing and design of development publications;
  • Answer phones and receive visitors as needed;
  • Perform other office management tasks as needed.


The Development and Communications Assistant must:

  • Have a belief in BTLT’s conservation mission;
  • Be a motivated team player;
  • Have excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Be proficient in Microsoft programs, e-mail, and technology;
  • Be able to manage diverse tasks, effectively prioritize and manage time, and meet deadlines;
  • Have good customer service and interpersonal skills;
  • Be able to pay close attention to confidentiality.

The preferred candidate will have at least two years of experience or training in more than one of the following areas:

  • Database management;
  • Development, fundraising, and/or marketing;
  • Event coordination and promotion;
  • Conservation and/or non-profit work.
