About the Kittery Land Trust
The Kittery Land Trust, established in 1987, is a small land trust in Southern Maine dedicated to saving land and building community. KLT envisions a community that has clean air, water and soils, natural places to explore, a healthy economy and environment, and actively engaged partnerships to better connect people with nature.

Since its inception, KLT has conserved over 800 acres, working with the Mount Agamenticus to the Sea Conservation Initiative so that Kittery’s conservation work fits into a larger landscape-scale conservation plan. In addition, KLT has partnered with numerous Kittery organizations with overlapping missions, such as the Kittery School District and Project SAFE at the Kittery Community Center.

What will the Director Do?
In partnership with the Board of Directors, two part-time administrative staff, and dozens of volunteers, the Executive Director (ED) will help lead KLT into the next phase of its development. S/he will continue to help KLT conserve high priority lands and steward existing holdings, while expanding community conservation activities.

Specifically, the ED will:
     - Work with KLT’s bookkeeper and other volunteers to manage, implement and report on KLT’s financial activities;
     - Interface with Town of Kittery officials to make sure that KLT’s activities are well coordinated with Town priorities and processes, including the recently adopted Comprehensive Plan;
     - Work with the Outreach and Communications Committee to coordinate KLT’s external communications with members, partners and collaborators;
     - Work with volunteers and part-time staff to oversee the annual appeal, and to grow membership support;
     - Stay apprised of grant opportunities and develop/submit proposals when appropriate;
     - Work with Stewardship Committee (and contractors as necessary) to complete baseline monitoring and new management plans for conserved lands;
     - Oversee work of the Acquisitions Committee to move high-priority conservation projects toward fruition;
     - Continue to shepherd educational programming that provide Kittery children greater opportunity to be – and learn – outdoors;
     - Keep abreast of Land Trust Alliance Standards and Practices, and continue moving KLT toward greater conformance with these practices.

Required Qualifications:
     - Understanding of land trust best practices, policies and laws, especially as they apply in Maine;
     - Demonstrated ability to work independently, and to manage multiple and simultaneous projects;
     - Strong written and verbal communication;
     - Demonstrated ability to work with volunteers;
     - Experience working with small non-profit organizations.

Additional Qualifications (preferred but not essential):
     - Background in conservation biology and/or environmental science
      - Background in education
      - Budget development and financial reporting

Position Location, Hours and Compensation
The ED will work out of the KLT office at the Kittery Community Center in Kittery, Maine. This is
a part-time position with approximately 14 to 18 paid vacation days (depending on hours
worked). Hours will fluctuate week to week but will average 25 hours/week. Some regular
office hours are required but a portion of the 25 hours can be achieved from home or other
remote location. The ED will have the option of working an additional 8 hrs/week as
coordinator of the Mt Agamenticus to the Sea Conservation Partnership. Health insurance is
not provided.
