Seasonal Full-Time, Blueberry Farm and Stewardship

Coastal Mountains Land Trust is seeking a seasonal Blueberry Farm and Stewardship staff member to work with our stewardship staff full-time for up to 10 weeks, beginning in late June. The Land Trust will provide an opportunity to gain experience in a broad spectrum of stewardship activities, with a special focus blueberry farm work and harvest at our Beech Hill Blueberry farm.

Responsibilities include:

Assisting with leading the organic blueberry farm and harvest management, including maintenance of crop fields, coordination of harvest crew, processing blueberry orders and coordinating customer pickup, while maintaining detailed records of all harvest and sales (55%)

Performing preserve maintenance tasks (clear and maintain trails, build and maintain signs and kiosks, mark boundaries, control invasive species) (35%)

Organizing and leading volunteer work parties and outreach events, including a public blueberry farm tour (10%)

Desired qualifications:

Articulate in public and possessing a pleasant personality featuring tact, patience, flexibility, and helpfulness.

Ability and willingness to use power tools, including hand held brush-cutters and a walk behind field mower.

Ability to work independently and coordinate both paid and volunteer crews.

Ability to perform farm work in various weather including hot, humid and buggy conditions, while maintaining a positive attitude and sense of humor. Beech Hill has stunning views of Penobscot Bay.

Basic carpentry and painting skills, combined with common sense and attention to personal/crew safety.

Well organized work style and capability to conduct multiple tasks concurrently.

Rigorous standards of discretion and confidentiality necessary concerning the personal and financial information held by the Land Trust.

Compensation & Time Commitment: 

Compensation starts at $14/hour and will be based on experience. This seasonal full-time position will last for 10 weeks, beginning in mid to late June. This position will generally work weekdays, but the end of July and beginning of August’s blueberry harvest will include weekends. Due to the nature of farm work applicants must be flexible. Farm maybe closed due to weather and occasional weeknights are possible.  Applicants must have reliable transportation with a valid driver’s license and proof of insurance. Work-related travel will be reimbursed at .58 per mile.
