Communications & Outreach Coordinator (part time)

Summary

Friends of Baxter State Park seeks a part-­‐time Communications & Outreach Coordinator to join our team. This is a part-time, year-round position based in the Katahdin region, with an initial schedule of 12 hours per week and potential for growth. The Communications & Outreach Coordinator will work with a high degree of independence under the supervision of the Executive Director.  

Job Responsibilities

  1. Develop a strong working knowledge of Friends of Baxter State Park’s mission and programs, and communicate this information effectively to a wide range of audiences
  2. Write and edit written materials, including press releases, brochures, flyers, and newsletter articles
  3. Develop content for the Friends of Baxter State Park website and assist with managing the site
  4. Serve as a positive, public representative of Friends of Baxter State Park in the Katahdin Region, including representing the organization at events as requested by the Executive Director
  5. Serve as the lead on social media for the organization, including managing the Facebook page, developing and posting content, responding to comments, and exploring new social media channels
  6. Assist the Executive Director with responding to media inquiries and other public relations issues
  7. Collaborate effectively with other members of the Friends of Baxter State Park team, including staff, board members, committee members, and volunteers
  8. Other tasks as assigned by the Executive Director

Essential Qualifications

  • Excellent written and spoken English
  • Outstanding editing skills and attention to detail
  • Strong computer skills
  • Highest standards of personal and professional integrity
  • Flexible, friendly, positive, outgoing, organized, and self-­‐motivated
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, including remote work with limited supervision
  • Familiarity with Baxter State Park’s mission, history, geography, and management, or a desire to learn
  • Ability to prioritize and manage a dynamic workload and handle sensitive issues with tact
  • Willingness to maintain a physical presence in the Katahdin region, travel frequently within the region, and travel occasionally statewide
  • Home office, mobile phone, and reliable internet access

Desired Qualifications

  • Strong connections to Katahdin region communities
  • Competence with MS Word & Excel, Google Drive, Zoom, and Adobe Creative Suite
  • Familiarity with basic web design and content management
  • Experience with photography and/or video production
  • A passion for wilderness, land conservation, and the outdoors

Compensation

This position pays $20 per hour, with a flexible schedule and the opportunity to work remotely. This is a part-­‐time, non-­‐exempt position that does not include benefits. Some travel within Maine is required.
