The Kennebec Land Trust (KLT) seeks a highly motivated individual who will help promote the Trust and its mission in a positive manner and is committed to working in partnership with KLT staff and the Board of Directors and the communities we serve. This position shares responsibilities with the Director of Membership and Programming and the Executive Director.

Candidates should be highly organized and be able to manage multiple tasks in a small office environment. Professionalism, the ability to honor confidentiality, and excellent record-keeping skills are essential. Prior knowledge of donor management programs and QuickBooks is preferred.

KLT values a collaborative workplace culture. This position offers broad responsibilities and an opportunity to assist with membership and program development. We are looking for an individual to grow with the organization over time.

Compensation: This is an eight-hour-per-week position with a hybrid schedule of office and remote time possible. Compensation is $18 per hour for 50 weeks per year.

Benefits: Positive and rewarding work environment; prorated paid holidays (12 holidays/yr); KLT makes a non-elective 2% contribution to a SIMPLE IRA account for employees who make at least $5,000 a year.  

Qualifications include:

  • Experience in organizational administration including membership, reporting, documentation, correspondence, etc.
  • Ability to meet deadlines, keep schedules, and maintain effective filing systems.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs including Word, Excel, Publisher, and PowerPoint.
  • Experience in bookkeeping, organizational finance, and funding development
  • Ability to design marketing materials using MS Publisher or Adobe software
  • Demonstrated knowledge of current online communication platforms and social media

The Kennebec Land Trust (KLT), based in Winthrop, Maine, works cooperatively with landowners and communities to conserve the forests, shorelands, fields, and wildlife that define central Maine. KLT protects land permanently, offers opportunities for people to learn about and enjoy the natural world, and works with partners to support sustainable forestry and farming.

Established by citizens in 1988, KLT now has over 1100 household members. Over the past 33 years, we have partnered with private landowners and communities in 21 towns to conserve more than 7,200 acres through donations, purchases, and conservation easements. We have constructed 55 miles of trails on KLT lands and we organize hikes, paddles, bird walks, and outdoor photography and painting workshops that encourage residents and visitors to learn about and enjoy Central Maine’s natural landscape.

In 2010, KLT and the Maine Forest Service co-founded the Kennebec Woodland Partnership (KWP), a forestland conservation initiative. In 2013, KLT and state-wide conservation partners developed a Local Wood Works initiative. KLT’s Local Wood Works partners share a commitment to sustainable forestry, land stewardship, conservation of both working woodlands and ecological reserves, strong and resilient local economies, energy conservation, and support for landowners, loggers, processors, manufacturers, and consumers.
