Development Coordinator Position Description

Brunswick-Topsham Land Trust seeks an organized, detail-oriented people person with a flair for writing to coordinate and implement the organization’s annual fund, membership, and outreach needs. The Development Coordinator will be an integral member of the Land Trust team and will report to the Director of Development. To learn more about BTLT, please visit

Position: Full-Time, Year-Round Employee
Hours: 40 hours/week
Compensation: $39,520 to $47,840 (depending on experience and qualifications), plus benefits including health insurance, retirement, paid vacation and sick time, access to free BTLT CREA Summer Camp, and some remote work options

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Understand the mission and programs of BTLT and present them persuasively in writing and orally to current members, prospective members, and the wider community;
  • Write renewal and recruitment letters and assist with design of development publications;
  • Administer membership renewal, year-end, and other direct mailings and appeals;
  • Maintain Development records and files in accordance with accreditation requirements;
  • Maintain donor database (Little Green Light) and achieve proficiency with all elements of Little Green Light, including processing donations, thank you letters, and running reports;
  • Assist with coordination and planning of development-centered events and programs;
  • Draft periodic communications highlighting the impact of and appreciation for membership support;
  • Answer phones and receive visitors as needed;
  • Perform other office management tasks as needed.


The Development and Communications Assistant must:

  • Believe in BTLT’s mission of conservation, environmental education, local agriculture, and connecting people to nature;
  • Be a motivated team player;
  • Be comfortable working independently, both in terms of taking initiative and problem-solving;
  • Have excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Be proficient in Microsoft programs, e-mail, and technology;
  • Be able to manage diverse tasks, effectively prioritize and manage time, and meet deadlines;
  • Have good customer service and interpersonal skills;
  • Be able to pay close attention to confidentiality.

Multiple years of experience or training in more than one of the following areas a plus:

  • Development, fundraising, and/or marketing;
  • Database management (knowledge of Little Green Light a plus);
  • Excel and Microsoft Word;
  • Event coordination and promotion;
  • Conservation and/or non-profit work.
