Education Coordinator (50% part-time)
Salary: 25,000 year
Schedule: Flexible schedule (@16 hours/week during the school year)
Reports to: Executive Director
About Kittery Land Trust
The Kittery Land Trust is a member supported local non-profit organization led by a
group of volunteers committed to conserving special places and vital natural resources
in Kittery for current and future generations. KLT has conserved over 1000 acres in
Kittery to date. These lands are protected “in perpetuity” for the benefit of people, plants, and animals. All KLT protected land supports a healthy environment for everyone by
connecting our community to the land through outdoor recreation and education.
Position Summary
Kittery Land Trust is looking for an individual who is passionate about
environmental/outdoor education to take the reins of our award-winning collaboration
with Kittery Schools. This individual will be responsible for designing and implementing
K – 8 programming on KLT’s numerous properties including the Nooney Farm spring
and fall farm program for Shapleigh School 6 grade students.
Position Responsibilities
● Design and implement engaging outdoor education lessons that address the K-8
Science learning targets of the Maine Learning Results
● Coordinate programming with teachers and key district stakeholders
● Align programs with district curriculum maps
● Expose students to outdoor learning environments and experiences that boost
mastery in science, math, and language arts
● Design lessons for students to learn experientially, through direct guided
experience using sensory awareness, and active participation with natural
resources.
● Support creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving
● Promote social-emotional learning and cooperative behaviors
● Facilitate Grade 6 Nooney Farm Program
● Serve as an ambassador for KLT with the Kittery School District
● Develop and implement education programs for all ages that are outside of the
KSD
● Document and share program experiences
Qualifications & Skills
● Minimum three years of teaching experience preferred
● Certification in Elementary Education or concentration/graduate studies in
Environmental/Outdoor Education preferred.
● Strong verbal and written communication
● Effective collaborator and contributing member of the KLT staff
