The Cathance River Education Alliance (CREA) in Topsham, Maine seeks a creative, passionate, and nature-oriented leader to keep CREA in the forefront of exciting and innovative hands-on environmental education — connecting people to nature for the benefit of both.

For nearly 20 years, CREA has provided nature-based programs to the community. CREA delivers a multi-faceted environmental education program to MSAD 75, the Brunswick School Department, and the Brunswick-Topsham community. It operates a seasonal Ecology Center on the Preserve which is used for on-site school programs, vacation programs, and community workshops.  CREA’s educators also provide outreach activities in the schools, collaborating closely with teachers, principals and superintendents to tailor our programs to the curriculum needs of the schools. 

The position requires a passion for education, for the mission of the organization, and for a vision of establishing and nurturing a community-wide partnership with the natural world. The position requires leadership and decision-making abilities to oversee and personally carry out the following, with assistance from CREA staff and volunteers, and oversight from the Board Executive Committee:

  • Develop and conduct fundraising initiatives including grant acquisition activities and maintaining productive, lasting relationships
  • Develop and manage educational and community programs
  • Develop and maintain supportive relationships with local schools, the Brunswick-Topsham communities, organizations and businesses
  • Administer budget and finances
  • Oversee staff, contracted employees and volunteers
  • Develop and execute communications with the public and the media

The position requires working 35-40 hours per week, including some weekend and evening engagements both on and off of the Preserve. The position has a competitive salary based on experience and qualifications. Benefits include a flexible work schedule, a contribution towards health insurance, and a vacation policy.
