Maine High Adventure (MHA) provides 1-2 week canoe and hiking trips for groups of high-school age youth in the remote, serene forests and waterways of northern Maine. Here, you see moose wading as the morning fog rises off the river and hear the echoing call of loons on a lake surrounded by uninterrupted woodlands.

MHA seeks a creative, energetic cook to design and prepare meals for the program staff (not the campers). The staff is coed, and predominately 18-25 years old. The MHA base is on the north side of Matagamon Lake, next to Baxter State Park. Housing is in staff cabins.


  • Position Dates: June 1 – August 23 (some flexibility)
  • Position Salary: $1,800/month
  • Additional Information: Room/Board/Uniform/Training Included


  • Plan a daily menu for 10-20 staff, including breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
  • Be the primary cook/prep for most hot and cold meals except on days off.
  • Ensure proper food handling practices.
  • Be willing to certify as a ServSafe Manager for the state of Maine.
  • Manage food inventories and waste reduction.
  • Manage a budget and place weekly food orders.
