Position Title: Summer Stewardship Assistant
Classification: Temporary Full -Time Position non-exempt , 40 hours/week for 10 weeks (10 consecutive weeks during June-September 2021, specific start and end date is flexible)
Pay: 12.50/hour ($5,000)
Benefits: 2% retirement plan contribution and paid sick time accrual (4 hours/month)
Reports To: Executive Director
Overview: Spend your summer working outside in beautiful Cape Elizabeth, just south of Portland, ME! This position will provide an opportunity to learn about and assist with many aspects of land conservation and stewardship (field work on land trust properties), volunteer coordination, and work group management. This individual will work under supervision of the Executive Director with assistance from the Stewardship Coordinator and stewardship committee members.
Requirements:
- This position is geared towards undergraduate students and recent graduates, but this is not a requirement for consideration
- Self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision
- Enthusiastic about the outdoors and conservation
- Comfortable working outside for extended periods of time
- Able to work occasional evenings and weekends
- Able to provide reliable transportation (mileage will be reimbursed at IRS rate)
- Proficient with Microsoft Office and Google Suite
Other Relevant Experience:
- Landscaping and forestry
- Geographic Information Systems (GIS), especially ESRI products
- Environmental education
- Photography, videography, and other content creation
Responsibilities:
- (70%) Implement property management plans on CELT properties with assistance from other staff and volunteers, including:
- Invasive species management and removal
- Trail maintenance
- (20%) Coordinate volunteer work groups and stewardship events on a regular basis
- (10%) Other tasks, based on skills and interests, potentially including:
- Creating and updating property trail maps
- Assisting with signage and public outreach
- Generating content for website and social media
- Assisting with legal requirements such as annual property monitoring
