Job Term: This is a temporary, seasonal full-time position (4-month position). Preferred start and end date at the start of September 2026 – December 31st, 2026 (flexibility on start and end dates).

Job Requirements: This position requires outdoor skills, the ability to do physical work, a good work ethic, the ability to work productively alone and as part of a team, dependability, and initiative. Computer skills, reliable transportation, and an interest or prior experience in land conservation, land management, forestry, trail work, or related fields are required.

Job Duties: This position works closely with staff and volunteers. The duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Assisting and conducting fee land and conservation easement management, including monitoring, record keeping, annual reporting, and boundary line maintenance.
  • Assisting and conducting sustainable trail layout, design, rerouting, and building new trails.
  • Assisting and conducting routine trail maintenance, using power tools, hand tools, equipment, tractors, etc.
  • Assisting and building sustainable trail infrastructure, helping upgrade and build new bridges, steps, etc.
  • Assisting with natural resource inventories and land management, including tree planting, forest inventory, wildlife and water quality work, and blueberry management.
  • Assisting with Contractor management
  • Have a willingness to “pitch in” when needed, working effectively on a small staff.
  • Perform other duties as assigned and assist other departments as needed.

Necessary Qualifications:

  • Prior experience in land conservation, land management, forestry, trail work, or related fields. Or an interest and willingness to learn.
  • Experience operating equipment, hand tools, and power tools such as weedwhackers, hedge trimmers, chainsaws, brush saws, and small tractors, or a willingness to learn.
  • Experience conducting natural resource inventories and field surveys, or a willingness tolearn.
  • Stewardship or trail-building experience, or a willingness to learn.
  • Willingness to work in outdoor conditions, including but not limited to: heat, rain, biting insects, and difficult terrain.
  • Driver’s license and reliable personal transportation.
  • Ability to lift and carry heavy materials and equipment over rough ground
  • Ability to work responsibly, safely, and at times independently
  • Ability to manage time and tasks on independent projects.
  • Strong oral communication skills, positive attitude, and a passion for land conservation

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 6-month experience in land conservation, land management, forestry, trail work, or related fields such as construction, agriculture, landscaping, surveying, recreation management, or wildlife ecology.
  • Previous experience in a stewardship or trail-building position.

A Plus If You Have:

  • Any large/heavy equipment experience.
  • Knowledge of local flora and fauna
  • Wilderness First Aid or Basic First Aid Certification.
  • Experience communicating with the public and/or working with volunteers.

Training: A variety of training opportunities will be provided, both in the office and in the field.

Supervisor: Land & Stewardship Director

Compensation: $20.50 per hour. Satisfaction of contributing to a great cause as part of a small-to-medium-sized but ambitious community-based organization. Paid holidays. Schedule: Regular 40-hour per week work schedule, with a weekly schedule determined by the supervisor. Some weekend and evening hours may be required (weekly scheduling will be accommodated for this time).
