First Light Information Session

Wed., Aug. 5, at 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm

Join us for an information session and chance to ask questions about First Light, an ongoing collaborative effort begun in 2017 that seeks Wabanaki prosperity through access and stewardship of land while also seeking to create a stronger conservation movement that includes indigenous perspectives. Peter Forbes and Ciona Ulbrich, two of the leaders of First Light, will discuss why they suggest land trusts should care about Wabanaki sovereignty and access to land. They’ll talk about First Light’s work since 2017 to raise awareness about Wabanaki history and land loss in the conservation community. They’ll cover the collaborative efforts to build capacity, voice and power of Wabanaki leadership to address their needs around land stewardship as well as to organize leadership from Maine’s conservation community to respond to Wabanaki requests. They’ll also describe the process of committing your organization to our 2020-2021 Learning Journey Cohort and field any questions you may have about this work or First Light.

To register, fill out this form and we’ll send you the Zoom link and more information about participating shortly.
