Connecting Maine's Future Conservation Leaders with Maine's Land Trusts
The Richard G. Rockefeller Conservation Internship Program is a statewide summer internship program that places college students with land trusts across Maine for hands-on, paid conservation experiences.
Since 2016, the program has introduced students to careers in conservation while helping land trusts advance stewardship, education, outreach, and organizational projects. Interns gain practical experience, professional mentorship, and valuable connections within Maine's conservation community. The program is administered by Maine Coast Heritage Trust in partnership with Maine's land trust community
About the Program
Each summer, interns are matched with host land trusts throughout Maine to work on projects that support land conservation and community engagement.
Interns may assist with:
- Stewardship and trail projects
- Land management and monitoring
- Community outreach
- Environmental education
- Volunteer engagement
- Communications and storytelling
- Research and special initiatives
In addition to their host-site experience, interns participate in a statewide cohort that provides opportunities for professional development, networking, and shared learning.
