We Commit Cultural Access Workshop

Thu., Oct. 3, at 9:30 am - 4:30 pm, at Aldermere Farm

Rain or Shine. Bring your own lunch and beverage.

As part of the 2024 Maine Land Conservation Conference, Ciona Ulbrich of Maine Coast Heritage Trust (MCHT) and Tony Sutton of the Mitchell Center at University of Maine led a pair of workshops to explore how land trusts might improve cultural access to conserved lands. It was a beginning, and MCHT continues to work with Wabanaki partners on pilot projects around this goal. Ciona and Tony wish to continue the conversations that were begun on April 12th, and share their learnings from the pilots with the wider land trust community. This in-person workshop will be designed for that purposes.

The meeting will be held in the barn at Aldermere Farm (dress in layers – it could be quite chilly or quite warm!) and will run from 9:30am until approximately 1:30pm. If weather permits, we’ll spend the afternoon outside. We do ask you to bring your own bag lunch and beverage, and we’ll provide some goodies for dessert. Here’s a brief agenda.

Brief Outline:

  • 9:30 – 11:00am
    • Ciona Ulbrich and Tonny Sutton will update the group on what’s been happening with We Commit since April
    • May include PowerPoint slides and handouts
    • Will include time for Q&A
  • 11am-12pm lunch break – Bring Your Own bag lunch and beverage
  • 12:00-1:30pm
    • Walking the land at Erickson Field and further conversation about signage, cultural access, etc
