Land Trusts Preserve History, Too!

As Maine marks its bicentennial and our nation approaches its 250th year, we are highlighting some land trust conserved properties that preserve important chapters of Maine’s history.

While their primary mission is to conserve wildlife habitat, working lands, and outdoor recreation areas, Maine land trusts sometimes have the opportunity to protect a property that also provides a snapshot in time from a era gone by. Our new Land Trusts Preserving Maine’s History web page provides brief descriptions of some of these properties and links to find additional information on each one. Recent events have challenged many to re-visit our collective history. Not surprisingly, this list of land trust conserved properties also includes stories that can inform conversations of how Maine should learn from its past to shape a better future for all citizens.

If your land trust has a property to add to this list, contact Jeff Romano with a brief description, links to more information, and a high quality image if possible.
