Deadlines are fast approaching on two grant programs the Maine Bureau of Parks and Lands (BPL) administers. Check out the links below for more information and to see if a project you are working on is potentially-eligible.
The Land and Water Conservation Fund Act (LWCF) was established to assist federal, state and local governments in the acquisition and development of public outdoor recreation facilities. The LWCF Program provides matching grants to States and local governments for the acquisition and development of public outdoor recreation areas and facilities (as well as funding for shared federal land acquisition and conservation strategies). Administered at the state level by BPL, LWCF grants can provide up to 50% of the allowable costs for approved acquisition or development projects for public outdoor recreation.

The Recreational Trails Program (RTP) is an assistance program of the U.S. Department of Transportation. RTP provides funds to States for the development and maintenance of recreational trails and trail-related facilities for motorized and nonmotorized recreational trail uses. BPL administers the program in Maine. The state has determined it will provide funds received under this program as grants-in-aid to municipalities, other qualified sub-divisions of state government and to qualified non-profit organizations under guidelines established by the Bureau of Parks and Lands in conjunction with the Maine Trails Advisory Committee.
