Key Facts
- Donated Easements: We work with farmland owners who wish to protect their land by donating easements.
- Purchased Easements: We assist farmland owners who are interested in selling easements under the Land for Maine’s Future program (LMF) or the federal Farmland and Ranchland Protection Program (FRPP).
- FarmLink: We connect prospective farmers seeking farmland with retiring farmers and other farmland owners who wish to see their agricultural lands remain active.
- Buy/Protect/Sell: We purchase vulnerable farms, preserve them and then re-sell them to interested farmers (at their “farmland value”, not “development value”).
- Farm Viability: MFT draws on a diverse network of agricultural experts and resources to help participating farmers initiate new operations, reach new markets, or take other steps to enhance future success. In exchange for some services, participating farmers grant “term easements” to MFT to ensure the protection of their farms for an agreed upon amount of time, usually ten years.
