Service Area
Our focus area includes Lincoln, Knox, and Waldo Counties, encompassing 24 towns and the 450 square miles of the Damariscotta Lake watershed, Medomak River watershed, and Sheepscot River watershed, along with their many tributaries.

- Over 85 miles of public access trails
- 13.4 Miles of Medomak River shoreline and tributaries protected
- 9 Miles of shoreline protected along the Sheepscot River
- Reconnecting the Sheepscot River for migratory fish – 3 active projects that will open up total of 71 miles of river and 2,100 acres of pond for migratory fish.
- In 2018, kept 8.12 tons of pollutants from flowing into Damariscotta Lake.
- Operate Hidden Valley Nature Center with 25 miles of trails on 1,000 acres and over 40 programs, 7,000 visitor days annually.
- Created Outdoor Adventure Hubs where we take our nature center “on the road” to bring mountain bikes, XC skis and other equipment to rural communities.
- Protect land from the headwaters of the Sheepscot and Medomak Rivers to the bay – working on a scale that matters.
- Leader in protecting the water quality of Damariscotta Lake. Saved the lake from being choked out by invasive plant Hydrilla – from truckloads in 2009 to none found in 2018.
- The Sheepscot headwaters has a 19-mile contiguous footpath network, part of which is the route of the 46-mile Hills to Sea Trail, the second longest footpath in Maine after the Appalachian Trail
