Key Facts
With an office in Freeport, the Fund has been working in Maine since its founding in 1985, helping agencies, land trust partners and others conserve over 450,000 acres of important land and water resources across the state. Among these projects are coastal islands and the Bold Coast project, Reed Plantation, Sunrise Easement and other large-scale working forests, loans to land trusts and tribal groups.
Our work in Maine is predicated on partnerships. We help communities, land trusts, and government leaders tackle their conservation priorities. We offer ready capital to purchase and rescue properties when they come on the market and then work with our partners to identify long-term solutions for permanent conservation. Our capital supplies the timely bridge financing that is critical to help our partners save important places. The Fund has expertise in public and private finance and fundraising, mitigation and real estate, as well as specialty knowledge in salmonids.
