2025 Maine Land Conservation Conference Reflection

As someone who is relatively new to Maine Coast Heritage Trust and the land trust community, attending and planning my first Maine Land Conservation Conference was an incredible experience. I spent most of the event behind the scenes, embracing my role as an overseer to ensure everything ran smoothly. This allowed me to fully absorb the vibrant energy of the conference.

One of the most striking aspects I took away from the event was the palpable camaraderie and friendship that permeate this community. The warmth and support among attendees were inspiring, creating an environment where connections flourished, and ideas were exchanged freely. Our shared mission of preserving and protecting Maine’s natural landscapes unites us in a way that fosters not only enthusiasm but also a deep commitment— a level of passion that is often hard to find in other professions.

Although I wasn’t able to attend workshops, I found joy in other aspects of the conference. I enjoyed greeting attendees as they arrived, watching Nieweskok receive the prestigious ESPY Award, savoring a refreshing drink during the evening social, and engaging with the impressive exhibitors at the land fair. I also took some time to wander outside with other conference attendees, reconnecting with nature amidst the busy schedule.

I received heartwarming feedback from others, which filled me with pride for the hard work that went into organizing the conference. I am eagerly taking notes and laying the groundwork for the next event, aiming to make it just as successful, if not better. I look forward to strengthening my relationships within this community and reconnecting with familiar faces at next year’s conference. Together, we form a powerful collective dedicated to making a difference, and I am excited about the great achievements that lie ahead as we continue our vital work.
