Alternative Opportunities for Affirming Connection in the Outdoors across Maine

Queerly ME is wrapping up the year with a series of outdoor walks and community building programs. Queerly ME fosters strong support networks and strengthens community belonging for LGBTQIA+ adults in Maine by creating and increasing LGBTQIA+ visibility, resource accessibility, and community building outdoors. They serve all 16 counties of Maine.

The holiday season, as many of us know, can be a very difficult time for LGBTQIA+ people to navigate. This December they are organizing with the aim to create alternative opportunities for affirming connection across the state as many face less than affirming family environments. Several of these events are being hosted on land trust lands!!

  • Thursday December 4th 5:00PM-7:00PM Queerly ME at The Gardens. Queerly ME and Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens welcome back community members for another LGBTQIA+ centered Gardens Aglow gathering featuring a trail mixer walk and a chance to mingle afterwards in the Education Center. Boothbay, ME.
  • Saturday December 6th 1:00PM-2:00PM Seasonal Trail Mixer with Brunswick-Topsham Land Trust and Queerly ME. Trail Mixers are casual, connection centered trail walks, and one of our most popular programs! Periodically during our walk, we will propose conversation prompts to participants and encourage participants to “mix it up” and find a new person to talk to each time a conversation prompt is introduced to encourage new connections! Brunswick, ME.
  • Saturday December 13th 12:00PM-4:00PM Found Family GatheringQueerly ME and George’s River Land Trust are hosting a found family holiday gathering featuring a community meal, a guided nature walk centering connection as well as arts and crafts all day. If there is snow on the ground, we will be hosting a snow sculpture competition! We will also be collecting food to donate to local shelters and food pantries; please bring any canned or preserved goods you would like to donate. Searsmont, ME.
  • Sunday December 21st 12:00PM-1:00PM Trail Mixer in Farmington, ME.
  • Saturday December 27th 12:00PM-1:00PM Trail Mixer in Houlton, ME.
