SprayFest 2025: Herbicide Training for Invasive Plant Control

Join us for the second annual SprayFest, a great gathering to help you learn more about invasive plant management!

This training is designed for land stewards, conservation staff, volunteers, and anyone working to control invasive plants—especially stiltgrass. Don’t miss this chance to deepen your knowledge, build your skills, and connect with fellow land managers. Let’s tackle stiltgrass together—safely, legally, and effectively.

Cost: FREE but registration required – email to reserve your space! (Participant limit is 30)

What to Bring: Lunch, water, sunscreen, bug spray, appropriate clothing & footwear. Participants using herbicide must wear long sleeves, long pants, and close-toed shoes (rubber boots recommended). We’ll provide sprayers, herbicide, and nitrile gloves.

We’ll start the day at the Patten Free Library with an indoor session covering:

  • Herbicide rules & regulations
  • Label literacy (signal words, PPE, reentry intervals)
  • Herbicide selection & modes of action
  • Mixing, transporting, and spill prevention

Then we’ll head to a field site in Georgetown to put knowledge into action! Bring your lunch (or grab something on the go) and prepare for:

  • Hands-on demonstrations
  • Mechanical & chemical control of stiltgrass
  • Try out hand and backpack sprayers
  • Real-world applicator log practice
  • Field mapping & clean-up protocols
  • Tips for engaging with the public in the field
