MLTN Launches 2024 Census, Seeks 100% Participation
The Maine Land Trust Network (MLTN) regularly conducts a census to help us gain comprehensive information about the current state of Maine’s land trusts.
This latest census, launched on October 1st, is the fourth census we have conducted (2009, 2015, 2019, and now 2024) to understand more about the operations, impact, and trends that are relevant to the land trust movement. We will use this data to provide valuable information back to its members and others in the conservation community, to help guide the work of the MLTN, and to support advocacy for beneficial public policy and land conservation funding.
This is a census — not a standard survey where a representative sample tells the story. We are seeking 100% participation from Maine land trusts in order to:
- Fully document statewide achievements.
- Enhance our capacity to answer the range of comparative questions that land trusts pose to us.
- Have the full basis of land trust data to back up critical advocacy for land conservation in Augusta and beyond.
- Ensure Maine’s national leadership in land conservation is fully recognized.
At the beginning of October, instructions and background information will be emailed to the main contact at each land trust as listed on this website. (If you need to update your organization’s information on your page, please contact .) A printable PDF of the Census questions is available here. Land trusts are asked to designate a representative within your land trust who will take the lead on completing the census — we seek only one submission per trust and want to be sure you’re not duplicating your efforts!
Please complete the census by the end of the day on Friday, November 22, 2024.
To express our appreciation, each participating organization will be entered into a drawing to receive a cash donation. Two gifts of $500 and one gift of $1,000 will be awarded to three participating organizations.
